SAFETY TRAINING & EDUCATION

INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT

Professional Training Experience in the REAL World

Our owner and lead instructor, Joseph Fisher has been a certified DOD, Federal, NYS and Law Enforcement Instructor for over 25 years.

His time as an instructor began in 1998 for the NYPD teaching in-service tactical courses and lessons to uniformed and civilian supervisors. In 2015, based on his knowledge and experience, he was tasked by the department to write and develop a lesson plan to provide training to members of the department during the Ebola outbreak in NYC.

In 2003 he began teaching for the United States Air Force, conducting tactical and survival training for airmen operating in WMD warzone environments. His military CADRE experience included training several Joint Service Tasks Forces for CBRNE and WMD operations as well as Just In Time Training (JIT) deployments around the globe.

Training Experience in the REEL World

Our company has been providing safety services, prop firearms training and educational services to the film industry since 2014.

Since our inception in 2014, we have proudly worked on over 200 shows. In that time we have established and maintained a perfect safety record for On-Set Armory services.

Our set service follows the basic firearm safety tenants;

  • Treat ALL firearms as if they are loaded.
  • Always keep the prop firearms pointed in a safe direction.
  • Never place your finger on the trigger until ready to discharge.
  • Always know where the muzzle is pointed and what is behind your target.

These basic rules of safety are applied on all sets we work, regardless of the type of prop or replica firearms we are working with.

There is no margin of error for safety.

On Set we provide all firearms related safety briefs and the option for additional safety education and reviews during breaks and other down times in production. In addition to the basic safety briefs we also work with talent to enhance their on camera comfort and abilities with the prop firearms they will be using.

This includes;

  • firearm familiarization
  • firearm basics for the model they are utilizing, reloading, holstering, drawing and other skills as needed
  • how to work with a prop firearm on set without endangering other cast and crew members

We offer other skill and training services to our productions, actors and fellow crew members.

We are proud to support and assist our local Below The Line Bootcamp by donating our educational services to their program.

INDUSTRY TRAINING AND SAFETY

Since 2021, CPRNY has been working with other industry professionals to enhance the safety procedures and protocols regarding the use of prop firearms on set within the film community through education. We have collaborated with other Prop Masters, Set Armorers and Industry Professionals to enhance the available training resources and materials available to all cast and crew members regardless of title or position on productions. We proudly bring many of the techniques and lessons learned from our previous experiences to each and every production and set we work on.

We are a proud graduate of, supporter and Adjunct Instructor of the PROP GUN SET SAFETY Workshop, taught by our friend and industry expert Dutch Merrick.

Since the tragic events on the RUST set, we have provided over 75 televised and broadcast interviews. We are part of the United Studio Armorers working group who is focused on a continuing effort to ensure no one is ever harmed or killed on set by the actions of a trained, qualified and experienced set armorer utilizing set-safe blanks and properly inspected firearms in film production.
